Now I Know my CBDs

Now I Know my CBDs

Have you ever been in a conversation where everyone is talking about a movie you’ve never seen and you’re just slowing nodding your head, even though you have no idea what’s going on because it’s easier than admitting you’re completely lost? That’s me every single time someone talks about CBD. To me, CBD is like Billie Eilish; one day I woke up and suddenly everyone was talking about both things and I was expected to know about them too. I am young, fun and #cool, so I went along with it for a while, but now that CBD products are popping up everywhere and it’s becoming a bigger part of the zeitgeist (Kim K. even had a CBD themed baby shower!), I needed to get to the bottom of it. Lucky for you, I am going to share some of my research on CBD (still haven’t quite figured out who Billie Eilish is though)!

So what IS CBD? CBD, or cannabidiol, is a chemical compound from the Cannabis Sativa plant. It’s a natural substance that encourages the body to produce more of its own endocannabinoids, which helps create the feeling of relaxation and calm. It’s the chiller, legal cousin of THC. To answer my dad’s constant question: CBD is NOT weed! CBD doesn’t make you high or give you the munchies, but can relieve pain and stress, and who doesn’t need that?!

CBD can be found in edibles, sparkling waters, oils, you name it, but one arena CBD is majorly entering is skincare. According to a study published in 2018 in the Dermatology Online Journal, “cannabinoid products [which include cannabinoids like CBD and THC] have the “potential” to treat a variety of skin conditions, including acne vulgaris, allergic contact dermatitis, asteatotic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, hidradenitis suppurativa, Kaposi sarcoma, pruritus, psoriasis, skin cancer, and the cutaneous manifestations of systemic sclerosis.” Okay, yes, admitting I don’t know what most of those conditions are, but knowing it can treat acne, psoriasis and potentially skin cancer is enough for me! As I said, it’s a natural and safe ingredient that can have some seriously positive effects.

Since receiving Romer Skincare’s 3 step regimen in the mail last week, I have not gone a single night without using the treatment mask. The whipped, refreshing mask contains CBD and has completely changed my nighttime routine. Here’s a look at my current evening wind down: I take a warm shower, I wash my face with the Romer cleanser while I’m in there, and when I get out, I light a candle in my bathroom, turn off the light and apply the treatment mask by candlelight. I mean… how gorgeous?! It is such a peaceful and calm way to end my day, and if a glass of red wine sneaks in there, who am I to say no?! But seriously, Romer’s CBD mask has become a staple in my evening ritual, helping me wake up with hydrated, clear skin.
